The 28th annual Works of Heart valentine auction to help abused children will be Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Memphis College of Art from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

More than 100 regional artists create gallery-quality work specifically for the Works of Heart auction. This year the contributors include leading regional artists Dolph Smith, Quantavious 'Toonky' Worship, Jimpsie Ayres, Fred Burton, Younok Jung, Veda Reed and Juan Rojo.

Many guests make Works of Heart their annual valentine celebration. Partygoers can enjoy beer, wine and appetizers while bidding on their favorite artworks.

Heart is the theme for the pieces and each artist is offered a 12-inch wooden heart as inspiration. Some incorporate the heart in their artwork. Others don’t use the heart. The focus of many pieces is love, passion and heartbreak.

Joe Birch, WMC-TV news anchor, will emcee Works of Heart. All proceeds will benefit children served by the Memphis Child Advocacy Center.

Virginia Stallworth, executive director of the Memphis Child Advocacy Center, said, “The artwork at Works of Heart is sophisticated and gallery ready—but the bottom line is very simple. Everyone involved, from the artists to the volunteers to the guests, are helping hurting children find safety, healing and justice.”

The event attracts art collectors, contributing artists and people who want to help kids by bidding on unique, quality art.

The art work is displayed at the College of Art the week before the auction. Volunteers will be on hand during preview week, Monday, Feb. 10 through Friday Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Preview week is free and open to the public.

The volunteers also will provide information about the artists and will assist with bidder registration and early bidding.

Pictures of the artwork work will be posted as it arrives on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Photos from previous years also will be posted. General admission tickets are $75 and include complimentary beer, wine and appetizers.

Big Heart Lounge tickets are $200. Big Heart Lounge ticket holders receive special perks, including a personal work of art created by a Works of Heart artist, a Works of Heart T-shirt and other special gifts. Lounge guests also can partake of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the lounge on the main gallery floor.

You can see photos of the 2019 artwork and the event on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Tickets can be purchased online at MemphisCAC.org or by calling 888-4342.
