The Best Times is a Memphis based monthly news magazine for the 50 Plus market (Boomers and Seniors). We are printed in an easy-to-read large tabloid format.
The Best Times reaches an estimated 60,000 readers each month. We are a free publication available in over 200 locations covering the greater Memphis area. More information is availablein the Where to find us section below. Paid subscriptions are mailed.
Our target demographic group is an ever growing group of actively working and retired adults. 67% of our readers are female. Our readership is made up of 52% age 69 or younger and 34% in the 70 -79 age group. Adults 50+ make up 29% of the adult population according to the Census Bureau.
The Best Times has received local and national recognition based on its solid reputation for journalistic integrity and quality content. Topics covered include personalfinance, travel and leisure, retirement living, healthcare, health and fitness, gardening, pets, local history, computers as well as arts and entertainment.
We believe in longterm relationships with both readers and advertisers. The Best Times serves locally as the voice of the Senior Community.
In July, 2011, we sponsored our first Senior Expo and Health Fair. More Expos are planned. More new events are coming in the days ahead.

Lester Gingold
Owner, Publisher

Lester Gingold was, for 34 years, the General Merchandising Manager for Sears in the Midsouth. Following this career he served as Advertising Director for the Commercial Appeal for 15 years. He has owned and published The Best Times for the past 15 years. Approaching his 90th birthday, Lester continues to be active daily in the publications and is very active in the community's civic life.
He is a former president of the Memphis Cotton Carnival, Board Chairman of Les Passes Rehab Hospital, Board Chairman Goodwill Industries, President St. Mary's Advisory Board, Board Chairman, Memphis American Cancer Society, Board Chairman National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, President Rhodes College ODK Alumni and Board Chairman of the Memphis College of Art. Additionally, he has been President of the Memphis Sales and Marketing Executives, Advertising Club of Memphis and the Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South. He has also been a delegate to the White House s Conference on Aging.
Tom Jordan

Tom Jordan began his long newspaper career as a tramp printer shortly after discharge from the Army's 101st Airborne Division. A native of Hot Springs, Ark., he was educated at The University of Arkansas. His career includes four years as capitol bureau chief at the Arkansas Democrat and 30 years with The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, 15 as a supervising editor.
Jordan has numerous awards for reporting, including a national Mature Media Award in 2007. Teamed with the late Terry Keeter, he received a 1983 nomination for a Pulitzer Prize for reporting about corruption in Shelby County government. He has been editor of The Best Times since 2004.
Jim Moffatt
Advertising Manager
After 40 years at The Commercial Appeal in advertising, Jim retired on a Friday, took the WHOLE weekend off, and started his new job at The Best Times the following Monday! He has been with the paper for four years. Moffatt attended the then Memphis State University majoring in marketing. Jim is a retired Marine Sergeant Major and is known throughout the mid-south as a marksman and gun enthusiast. In his political career he served as Constable of Shelby County. As a fledgling actor Jim has been in over two dozen feature films, TV movies and commercials.
Jim Long
Advertising Account Executive
Jim Long has a B.S. in Journalism and an MPA from Memphis State University. He published advertising papers in Salt Lake City, Utah and in the panhandle of Florida. He was the first Chief Administrative Officer for Shelby county Tennessee after serving as the CAO for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and as a member of the Shelby County Quarterly Court. He also has owned local grocery stores and insurance agencies.
Arch Stewart
Advertising Account Executive
Arch Stewart is a former Advertising Account Executive with The Commercial Appeal. He was also Sales Manager for Mid-South, the Sunday Magazine of The Commercial Appeal. Prior to his career with the CA, he was an Account executive with Jerry Morris Advertising, sold television production and Theatre Screen Advertising for Alexander Film Studios in Colorado Springs. CO.
Sherry Greene
Office Manager
Sherry Greene has made Memphis home since 1981 when she began a twenty-six year career at The Commercial Appeal as an ad designer and retail advertising account executive, including a stint as the vendor advertising coordinator. She also previously worked at the Huntsville (Ala) News. Sherry joined The Best Times staff in 2008 as office manager, advertising representative, and assistant to the publisher, duties which keep her working on each edition from conception to invoicing. Sherry attended William Woods College in Fulton, MO where she majored in art and minored in equestrian studies. She enjoys working with The Best Times tightly knit staff and the freedom allowed her to her to use her creativity and knowledge to help advertisers get results.
Mindy Fulcher
Art Director
Upon graduating from Arkansas State University, Mindy began her career as a Graphic Designer in advertising in Memphis, Tenn. Over the past ten years Mindy has worked for advertising agencies, magazines, stationery companies, photographers, theaters, and banks. Mindy has been the Art Director for The Best Times for the past four years. In addition, she is currently working toward a Masters in Fine Arts in Graphic Design at University of Memphis and teaching classes there as a graduate assistant.
Brigette Dobbins
Web Design Intern
Brigette is a native Memphian. She graduated from Cordova High School in 2007, and began college during the fall of the same year. She is a senior at Christian Brothers University, majoring in Management Information Systems. She has interned at various companies in different capacities. Upon graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in a field related to creating solutions for business problems using technology.
